Built at a Plank Road and Rail Crossing
Fraser has almost no recorded settlement before the 1850s. The real start came in 1851, when the Detroit Erin Plank Road Company began building Utica Road through the area, and in 1858, when the Chicago, Detroit and Canada Grand Trunk Junction Railroad ran its line through and later built a depot on what is still called Depot Road. Those two features created the crossroads village, incorporated in 1894 and reincorporated as a city in 1956.
A Compact Core With a Late Incorporation Date
Because Fraser's city-level incorporation didn't arrive until 1956, much of its original village-era housing near the old plank-road and depot crossing predates the postwar mechanical standards found in the newer construction ringing it -- worth flagging before a technician assumes a uniform duct layout.
